Integrity Coordinating Group visits Geraldton

Public Sector Commission

Western Australia’s independent integrity officers visited Geraldton on 9 May to meet with State Government agencies and local governments from the region. The visit was the first time the ICG had convened in a regional centre.

Current ICG Chair and Public Sector Commissioner, Mal Wauchope says it is a priority for his office and his ICG colleagues to visit to the State’s regions and experience the good work being done, as well as listening to current challenges.

'I know I gain a greater understanding of what is happening on the ground when we conduct regional visits–subtleties which are unique to each region,' Mr Wauchope said.

Fifty three public officers attended the ICG’s Geraldton Regional Forum which focused on two main elements:

  • increasing authorities’ awareness of the roles of the ICG members
  • an interactive discussion on conflicts of interest and the offer, acceptance and provision of gifts, benefits and hospitality.

The Forum was held at Zeewijk Restaurant at Durack Institute of Technology. Feedback from attendees at the Forum was very positive with a high percentage indicating that the information presented was of a high quality and relevant to their role.
